Hey you.

golden nugget
You know…have you ever borrowed a book from the library and at the back of your mind you wish that in between the pages you’d find some sort of a golden nugget? Like a slip of note or photo or something from the previous reader? Usually the things i find are just receipt slips but last night in one of the books that i borrowed i came across something really surprising. This golden nugget was hidden under the cover sleeve of the book. You wanna know what i found? A b&w photograph of a lady wrapped in a small ziplock with a few strips of black tape onnit. Ziplock. Girl. Strips of black tape. They all can only mean one thing, the previous reader must have been an NS man. Yeah, been there done that. If there’s anything in common about soldiers, it’d be that we always keep a handy photograph of our loved ones with us. You’ve seen it before haven’t you? In the war movies and such. These things will remain forever. Why keep a photo of your gf with you? Because it makes days in which you’ve just been through shit alot easier. It keeps you going. It fills you with happy thoughts which are never too far away and eases your pain away. And the fact that it was wrapped in a small ziplock meant that he brought it along with him wherever he went. ESPECIALLY, the jungle trainings. When you’re out there in the woods with nothing but sweat and dirt on you..having a photo of your beloved takes you away from that uncomfortable spot. Yeah us boys go through that shit in the Army. Fuck, i’ve had my fair share of being in the jungle and wanting to give up. I’ve had to go to Thailand on a Free Navigation quest, walked over 250KM with 4 other friends and not being all too familiar with the people and the surroundings. When you’re stuck with something like that, all you think about are the people at home and then you’ll find yourself pushing on and on and on. It’s nice to be back home. =)
So today then, i had another surprise! Someone from flickr sent me a mail.
Subject: RESPECT
“Dude, your pictures really inspire me man. What I love about the pictures are that,1st of all, you’re Singaporean and many pictures are taken in Singapore so it kinda shows that you dont have to go far to get a good picture. 2ndly,I love how you compose your shots and the perspective you have when shooting.Awesome and simply creative.Keep up the great work dude!Hope to see more! Peace!”
Reading that on a Saturday morning really made my day. It’s always nice to know that someone out there likes the photograph you took. I sent a thank you reply to him and i couldn’t stop smiling ever since then. Pretty nice breakfast eh? hahaha. So that’s all i’ve got for today. It’s really been a while since i last posted something here but i will occasionally update just to you know let off a few steam here and there. I hope you’ll have good days ahead!
